First off let me start by saying congratulations to Liz and Andrew – it was a beautiful wedding and I was honored to be a part of it. Now, before we get to the pictures, let me set the scene for anyone that was not a part of the event. It’s Saturday June 12th, about 8AM, and I look outside to see the weather…and well, it’s drizzling. Let’s keep in mind, the ceremony is supposed to be outdoors at Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, NH. So, I setup my phone to keep the doppler running so I can check it throughout the day as I am dead set on willing the rain to stop. I arrive around 10AM at Liz’s house to get some shots of everything being setup and all of the lovely ladies getting ready – but first, weather check – it has gone from drizzle to rain, but the doppler looks like it should be clear by 1PM and the ceremony isn’t until 6:30PM – so we aren’t sweating it. I run between the raindrops and snag some shots and then head inside where it is just a tad drier. Gets to be around noon, the house is bustling with people getting ready and everyone’s mood is good – weather check – still raining and now it looks like it might be about 2PM before it stops, but hey, still plenty of time. About 4PM now, dresses are getting ready to be put on and final touches are being made for the reception – weather check – the weathermen LIE, the rain did slow for a little while but now we are back to rain and the doppler is not looking in our favor. Almost time to go to the ceremony now, we have put off the pictures of the women’s portion of the wedding party as long as we could hoping for a break in the rain but it just would not give it up – so we packed everyone onto the front porch (certainly can’t have all of the beautiful hair messed up by the rain…
) and started shooting. Well, here is where I get to thank my assistant and second shooter, Derick, who certainly was a big part of this event. Normally he gets to stay in the distance, getting some of the more distant and angled shots but today his camera was traded in for an umbrella which he unselfishly held over my head during most of the shots taken from this point on until we got to the reception. At this point, I know a lot of brides and their parties who would be really upset at the weather, but not Liz and her girls - she kept her calm and just rolled with the punches and we all made the best of what we had. In fact, I really have to give it to her and everyone else that helped with the preparations as they had thought through the potential of rain as 80+ umbrellas had been bought for the ceremony should it rain (and yes – it rained…not drizzle, not mist, RAIN). The rest of the ceremony went well, rain or not, and there was a lot of loving family and friends that hung in there despite the weather to wish Liz and Andrew well.
So, now I’ll get on with the pictures now as I am sure that’s what you are here for…however, before I do I’d like to set a challenge for all of you…if this post can get 20 comments, I will give Liz and Andrew a $20 print credit! You do want to help them right?
Just leave a comment for them, I’m sure they would love to see them! Thanks everyone for visiting!
